2013 Toyota Tundra Overview
Though it may not carry the panache of some its American counterparts, the 2013 Toyota Tundra is very capable, reliable, and rugged full-size pickup truck with one of the best V-8s in the business.
Like most other full-size pickups, the Tundra is available in a range of cab sizes and bed lengths. There are three different cabs: regular, Double Cab, and CrewMax. The CrewMax is the largest option, with full front and rear doors and only comes with a shorter, 5.5-foot bed. Both the regular and Double Cab are offered with either a 6.5-foot bed or an 8-foot long bed.
The 2013 Tundra is boldly styled up front, with a large front grille that covers up a massive front air intake. It’s a burly, strong look befitting a full-size pickup. 17-, 18-, or 20-inch wheels come at each corner; a power-sliding rear window and a power moonroof are optional. Available off-road packages each add their own pieces of flair to the Tundra.
Under the hood there are three available engines, one V-6 and a pair of V-8s. The standard engine is a 270-horsepower, 4.0-liter V-6 that makes 278 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Next up is a 310-horsepower, 4.6-liter V-8 with 327 pounds-feet of torque, which is topped by a 381-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-8 that delivers 401 pounds-feet of torque and superlative power/towing capacity. Both V-8s are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive is optional on V-8 models. Towing capacity maxes out at 9,000 pounds when properly equipped.
Inside, the 2013 Tundra has a flexible interior with plenty of different seating options. Up front, choose between a front bench and a pair of front bucket seats which change seating capacity between five and six passengers for Tundras with a second row. Standard features include dual-zone air conditioning, an abundance of storage options, heavy duty flooring, and power windows/locks.
There are also plenty of standard safety features, such as antilock brakes, electronic stability system, side-impact and side curtain airbags, and trailer-sway control. A backup camera is optional.
